Household expenditure, as defined by various inputs

• This report follows our report SA Consumer Wallet 2018 which presented estimates of expenditure by income groups. 
• We now examine expenditure, as indicated by the household characteristics of income source, age, and level of education. We again rely on comprehensive and independent household-level data from the BMR. 
• We forecast the household sector to again drive growth in 2018 despite the inherent economic headwinds of tax hikes and record fuel prices. Understanding spending patterns is therefore important as it helps in understanding how households are affected by, and can respond to, any particular economic shock.
