John Arron holds a BSc in Physics and Applied Maths (St. Andrews, 1978) and an MSc in Exploration Geophysics (Imperial College, 1986). He moved to South Africa in 1988 and worked for Johannesburg Consolidated Investments (Anglo American) in precious metals exploration for five years. After obtaining an MBA (Wits University, 1993) he joined Standard Bank as derivatives trader. He joined HSBC a year later as research analyst covering the Diamond, Engineering and IT sectors. In 1999, he joined BJM (later becoming Renaissance Capital), covering the IT, Engineering, Electronics & Electrical, Building & Construction and Materials sectors. In 2011, as Director of Investment Research, he headed a team of analysts covering the cement industry in sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa until 2012. In 2013 he joined Aveng as head of investor relations. In 2018, John joined Aluwani Capital as Head of Research, as well as covered the Resources (Diversified Mining, PGMs, Gold), Oil & Gas, Beverages and Tobacco sectors. In a career spanning 28 years, John has been rated consistently in the annual Financial Mail survey.
