Career Highlights

Dinham studied at UCT where he qualified with a BSc Geology and Chemistry as well as an Honours in Geochemistry. In 1984, he completed his MSc Mineral Exploration at Queens University in Canada. Nic worked as a geologist at a gold mine in SA, then switched to copper, tin and uranium exploration in Namibia. In the early 1980s, he also took part in gold, tin and diamond exploration in Brazil. In the mid-1980s, he joined a SA stockbroker and covered base metals, coal and platinum shares. He then joined Gencor and Impala in the early 1990s, initiating and completing a project that resulted in a significant improvement in Impala’s rhodium recoveries as well as the establishment of strategic marketing and technical projects with Norilsk, Almaz, Degussa and other platinum fabricators. He then joined a stockbroker in Western Australia in mid-1990s where he covered Australian, Asian and African junior gold and base metal mining and exploration companies. Nic returned to SA at the end of 1990s and worked in the SA sell-side until retirement in 2014, having covered most of the listed domestic resource sector and consistently ranging in the top 6 of the FM ratings. In 2015, he joined Stanlib as a consultant to mentor promising analysts and took on the analysis and evaluation of resources companies for the equity investment team. Since 2019 Nic has been acting as a consultant for OUTA to formulate a strategy to reduce corruption and increase transparency in the Department of Mineral Resources.
