Zaakirah is an Economist holds a BEconSci (Hons) and MCom from the University of the Witwatersrand. She has held a number of positions in industry, both in the public sector and private sector. These include being a consultant at Investec Private Bank and a researcher at the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). She has also lectured Economics including- Mathematical Economics, Financial Derivatives, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics- at both the University of the Witwatersrand and Rhodes University respectively. She has successfully published articles in various accredited journal articles in the fields of labour and energy economics.

The rand weakened further yesterday, closing above 13.00, partly due to the stronger dollar. Brent broke below USD46/bbl intraday, to lows last seen in November 2016, on renewed oversupply fears.
